Mike’s Favorite places to shop for Gun Dog Supplies
Most trainers who have been doing this for awhile have their own favorite sources to purchase gun dog supplies. I’ve tried several and here’s my short list of preferred suppliers, and a few I discovered but haven’t used yet.
www.sportsmanswarehouse.com
Great store, lousy website. Sportsman’s Warehouse at the Spokane Valley Mall is a good local source for gun dog and hunting supplies. I’ve spent way too much money there on bumpers, duck calls, and other assorted items. They have an assortment of e-collars, leashes, Dokkens, whistles, dog first aid kits, crates, and a number of other general training items. Best selection in town.
If I have a little time I like to compare products / prices online and here are some of my favorite sites.
www.cabelas.com
Cabelas has a good general supply of dog supplies from dog beds to bumpers, to e-collars and launchers, and whistles. They also carry a wide assortment of upland and waterfowl apparel. They’re fast, products are reasonably priced, and they have a pretty easy return policy if something doesn’t work out. I’ve purchased more dog training supplies from Cabela’s than any other source and have never had a problem.

Gun Dogs Online. I haven’t bought anything from these guys yet but they have perhaps the largest inventory of gun dog supplies I’ve seen on the web. They also have a number of interesting articles on their site. I plan to give them a try.

Lion Country Supply. I just placed my first online order with this outfit and was happy with their products, pricing, and delivery time. They have a large online inventory and pretty competitive pricing. They also have a paper catalog with everything from whistles to launchers. They have a few products that they sell under their own brand with the label “Better”. I bought their Lion Country Better dog training bag which turned out to be a pretty good copy of the Boyt dog training bag, but for considerably less.

I’m on my second Tri-Tronics collar and both have been great. I had two of another brand that weren’t so great and did more harm than good to my training program. A good general site for information on e-collars. Most consider Tri-Tronics to be the best.
www.collarclinic.com
This is where I purchased my last Tri-Tronics collar. I traded in my old collar and got a discount on a new one. They sell several lines of new and reconditioned collars including Tri-Tronics, Dogtra, DT, and Innotech. They will also recondition your collars.

Primarily a veterinary site but they also have a large selection of general dog supplies including e-collars, leashes, collars, beds, crates, flea and tick products, etc.
http://www.sportingdogsupply.com/
Don’t know much about these guys but they do have a nice site and a decent online inventory.
http://www.retrieversupply.com
Another site I don’t know much about but looks promising.
Good luck in your gear search!
