Did anyone notice there is only 2 tests this year! There could be one added in June as usual but someone has to volunteer for it.

Kent, I will volunteer for the April 12 picnic even though I might not be qualified to judge I will organize it and give judging a try.

Bob,

you may not be a "licensed" judge, (but you should get that done) and you have been around this game/circuit and participated to the point of where I would consider you VERY qualified. BTW:I enjoy keeping up on whats going on with the club on this discussion board.

Good job, Bob!!!

A picnic test is an ideal opportunnity for folks to gain experience in performing the functions needed to do a Licensed event. Those functions are gunners, marshalls, event chairman and JUDGES. Judging a picnic test is a great way for someone to get their feet wet in the judging pool. HPW

Carol Ramsay has approached me to be a judge but I declined because I can't hear most whistles. I could do started tests but they are always paired with the Intermeediate level. If I am real close and it's not too windy I can hear air go through whistles but the pitch is too high for my ears. I am always asking whoever is next to me if they heard the handler blow a whistle. That's kind of weird too because when I am duck/goose hunting I hear geese as soon as anyone. It's all in the tone, I lost most my hearing from an ear infection 50 years ago. No one ever told my hearing was bad and I never knew why I had to sit in the front row at school. Anyone that knows me well would think it was from misbehaving!

A judge should position themself so while they watch the dog them can also watch what the handler is doing. You should be able to SEE them blow their whistle. Judge a picnic test and see if that works out. Judging is not science, it's subjective analysis of your observations. Have some fun also. HPW

Thanks Rick and Harry, I'll give it a try. It will be a picnic so I will get a chance to do all the levels.
